The

European Union

has sought information from

Amazon

on how the e-commerce giant complies with digital rules that came into effect in 2022. The European Commission asked the US-based company to hand over more information on what steps it has taken to comply with the

Digital Services Act

(DSA)..
“We have sent a request for information to Amazon regarding their compliance with the Digital Services Act,” the commission said in a post on X.

“In particular, Amazon is asked to provide detailed information on its compliance with the provisions concerning transparency of the recommender systems, the input factors, features, signals, information and metadata applied for such systems and options offered to users to opt out of being profiled for the recommender systems,” it said.

The commission said it wanted to know more about “the design, development, deployment, testing and maintenance of the online interface of Amazon Store's Ad Library”. Amazon has been give until July 26 to respond.

What Amazon has to say

In response, Amazon said it is “reviewing” the request and “working closely” with the commission.
“Amazon shares the goal of the European Commission to create a safe, predictable and trusted shopping environment,” news agency AFP quoted an Amazon spokesperson as saying.
“We invest significantly in protecting our store from bad actors, illegal content, and in creating a trustworthy shopping experience,” the spokesperson added.
