NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City residents will be marking Equal Pay Day on Tuesday with a rally in front of City Hall.
The rally will be hosted by the Communications Workers of America Local 1180 and PowHer New York. Mayor Eric Adams will be attending, as well as Attorney General Letitia James.
The goal of the rally is to highlight the gender pay gap, according to organizers. Equal Pay Day symbolizes how far into the year, on average, a woman has to work to earn what a man earned the year prior.
A woman, on average, made 84 cents for every $1 her male counterpart made in 2022, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Advocates said the disparity is even greater for women of color.
The rally will be held at 10:30 a.m.
