NEW DELHI:
Ben Stokes
, the captain of the
England cricket
team, is set to participate in
The Hundred
tournament this year, as confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (
ECB
) on Thursday. His involvement in the competition will commence following the conclusion of England's series against West Indies.
Stokes, who last took part in The Hundred in 2021, will be available to represent his team,
Northern Superchargers
, for four matches.
The team is coached by
Andrew Flintoff
, and Stokes' participation will begin after the completion of the third in Birmingham.
In addition to Stokes, several other England batters, including Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope,
Joe Root
, Harry Brook, and Jamie Smith, will also feature in The Hundred once the West Indies series concludes.
"The availability of England Men's bowlers will be dependent on workload and international selection," Reuters quoted ECB as saying.
"But Gus Atkinson, Matthew Potts and Dillon Pennington are all likely to feature in The Hundred from the early rounds. Chris Woakes is expected to be available from Tuesday 6 August."
The ECB has announced that players chosen for the opening Test versus Sri Lanka, scheduled to take place at Old Trafford starting Aug. 21, will be permitted to participate in the playoffs of The Hundred on Aug. 17 and 18.
Following the initial Test, England is set to welcome Sri Lanka for two additional Tests in London. The second will be held at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground from Aug. 29, while the series finale will be staged at the Oval, commencing on Sep. 6.
