Google

issued an apology and paused the image generation capability of its AI chatbot

Gemini

after it generated racially biased image results in response to user queries. The company said it will re-release an improved version soon. Billionaire

Elon Musk

pounced on this ‘opportunity’ to criticise the search giant’s “insane racist, anti-civilisational programming”.

“I’m glad that Google overplayed their hand with their AI image generation, as it made their insane racist, anti-civilisational programming clear to all,” Musk said in one of the posts targeting Google.

Musk also shared memes and attacked a Google executive who has been working on Gemini Experiences. He pointed out that Jack Krawczyk, who is the senior director of product at Google, was behind Google’s AI being racist.

“This nut is a big part of why Google’s AI is so racist & sexist,” he said. Musk also shared a meme, making fun of Google.

What Google said
Google acknowledged the issue of biased image generation and said that the

AI model

has “limitations in the training data used to develop Gemini.”
“We’re aware that Gemini is offering inaccuracies in some historical image generation depictions,” said Google in a post on social media platform X.

“We’re working to improve these kinds of depictions immediately. Gemini’s AI image generation does generate a wide range of people. And that’s generally a good thing because people around the world use it. But it’s missing the mark here,” it added.

Musk announces Grok AI’s next version
Musk also promoted Grok, an AI chatbot that is developed by his company xAI.
“Perhaps it is now clear why xAI’s Grok is so important. It is far from perfect right now, but will improve rapidly. V1.5 releases in 2 weeks. Rigorous pursuit of the truth, without regard to criticism, has never been more essential,” he said in a post on X.
