NEW YORK (PIX11) -- An 87-year-old great-grandmother said her kitchen at Wagner Houses has leaked for months. Crews came to fix her kitchen wall and left the job incomplete, so she didn’t want to wait anymore.
Gladys de Leon watches PIX11 News every day. She reached out on behalf of her neighbor, 87-year-old Frances Williams. She said Williams is a warrior when it comes to fighting for her neighbors and their housing problems. Now, de Leon said, the tables are turned. Williams needs help getting repairs for herself.
Williams couldn’t wait to show PIX11 the problems in her kitchen. Her kitchen wall is covered in duct tape and plastic. Two weeks ago, NYCHA came to fix a recurring leak and gave her a slop sink. She really wants them to finish the job so she can get her kitchen back. Williams has no cabinets; everything is in the middle of her living room.
Francis is a fashionista. A closet near her kitchen also leaks, ruining her favorite clothes.
PIX11 reached out to NYCHA about Williams' kitchen wall and the status of those repairs. A spokesperson told PIX11,
“NYCHA staff visited the apartment today to perform necessary repairs in preparation for the installation of new cabinets tomorrow. NYCHA encourages residents in need of assistance to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application."
