EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) -- Luz Amaro just finished radiation and is on her way to being cancer-free.
Amaro is a community champion and proud grandmother of seven. She wants her kitchen at the Jefferson Houses back so she can cook with her granddaughter before Mother’s Day.
She’s the matriarch of the family. Amaro has had a five-year battle with breast cancer. She’s bravely winning that fight right now for her life.
Her children said she is now fighting a different battle for repairs. Amaro says it’s impossible to cook because she has a slop sink and a giant hole in her kitchen wall.
PIX11 reached out to NYCHA for Amaro in hopes we can get her kitchen back before Mother’s Day.
A NYCHA spokesperson told PIX11 News:
“NYCHA staff visited the unit to assess the needed repairs and will be working to address a pipe repair later today. Once complete, we will work to complete all additional repairs. Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application.”
