EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) – An East Harlem grandmother says she's waited months for repairs in her mold-filled home, only to have her repair tickets closed.
Denise Hunter said she is tired of having to shower in a place that she feels is toxic. Hunter said duct tape and plastic are holding pieces of the ceiling together, and there are places where there is exposed pipe.
Hunter spent her whole life helping others as a hospice care worker. Now she needs help herself.
A NYCHA spokesperson provided the following statement about the situation.
“NYCHA staff made contact with the resident and visited the apartment to assess any issues and necessary repairs," the NYCHA spokesperson said. "Staff will return tomorrow to address mold concerns and complete plastering repairs later in the week. Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application."
