NEW DELHI: The 2024 Indian Premier League has revolutionized T20 cricket, with numerous records being shattered throughout the tournament. During the match between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, the ongoing season witnessed the highest number of sixes ever hit in a single IPL edition.
The game featured a total of 20 sixes, bringing the overall tally for the season to 1,125, surpassing the previous record of 1,124 set in the 2022 season.
With a few matches still remaining, this number is expected to rise further.
The increasing trend of hitting sixes over the past three seasons highlights the growing dominance of batters in the format.
In addition to the six-hitting record, several other milestones have been achieved in the current IPL season. Punjab Kings chased down a mammoth target of 262 set by Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, marking the highest successful chase in T20 cricket history.
The match also featured a record-breaking 42 sixes, the most ever hit in a T20 game. Prior to Punjab Kings' incredible feat, Kolkata Knight Riders had set the highest total at Eden Gardens in the T20 format, scoring 261/6.
Sunrisers Hyderabad also made their mark by posting the highest IPL total of 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bangalore, having already broken the record earlier in the season with a score of 277/3 against Mumbai Indians.
