Shah Rukh Khan had a remarkable year with hits like

Jawan

and

Pathaan

, both crossing Rs 1,000 crore globally. However, Dunki, released on Thursday, didn't generate the same excitement. As per industry tracker Sacnilk , Dunki earned Rs 30 crore on its opening day, ranking seventh after Jawan, Animal, Pathaan, Tiger 3, Gadar 2, and Adipurush in 2023. Jawan's opening was Rs 75 crore, while Adipurush made Rs 36 crore on day one, despite courting controversy since the day of its release.

'Dunki': Public Review of Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal's movie

Dunki is Shah Rukh Khan’s first collaboration with

Rajkumar Hirani

who till now has only delivered one blockbuster after another from Munnabhai series to 3 Idiots to PK to Sanju.

But given the long Christmas weekend, the film will be hopeful to cover a lot of distance but it is not probable to match up to King Khan’s earlier two releases of the year.
Even though this is Shah Rukh Khan’s least successful film of the year, the opening day figures here are still more than his 2018 release Zero, which also released on the same date. Zero opened with Rs 19.35 crore and could only manage to bring in Rs 90.28 crore during its lifetime.Dunki’s opening is also lower than Hirani’s last release Sanju which had opened to Rs 34.75 crore and went on to make Rs 342 crore.
