BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A Brooklyn man is facing charges of reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, and driving while impaired after a fatal crash on Sunday, authorities report.
The incident occurred on Gates Avenue around 5:30 a.m., when officers tried to pull over the driver of a Mercedez Benz, according to the NYPD. The driver, a 32-year-old man, allegedly sped off, ran a red light and hit another car, police said.
A 29-year-old passenger was ejected from the car that was hit, and was later taken to a hospital where she died, police said.
The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment and is in police custody.
The suspect, Juan Lopez, was also charged with refusal to take a breath test, unlawfully fleeing a police office, and leaving the scene of an incident, police said.
