Driver claims Tesla was on autopilot after running over pedestrian in Midtown: NYPD

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) – A 19-year-old driver was arrested after he struck a pedestrian and ended up on a sidewalk in Midtown Thursday night, according to the NYPD.

The incident happened on East 46th Street and Vanderbilt Avenue around 10:15 p.m., police said. The driver said his Tesla was on autopilot when he hit the victim and drove onto the sidewalk, according to authorities.

The driver was charged with disorderly conduct for obstructing traffic and possession of a controlled substance, police said.

He has been arrested six times since November, according to authorities.
