AGRA: In a surprising twist, a man ran off with his prospective
daughter-in-law
's mother, leaving behind 16 children - 10 his and six hers - and two bewildered families in Kasganj district. The real-life
drama
began when the groom's father and the bride's mother, who had been chatting on the phone since their children's
engagement
two months ago, decided to take a detour and elope.
Shakeel (who is mentioned by only by his first name in the
FIR
) and the woman started their secret conversations soon after their children's engagement, leading up to their mysterious disappearance on June 3.
After a wild goose
chase
for his missing wife, the bride-to-be's father finally reported the incident to the
Ganjdundwara police station
. He said, "For the last month or so, I've been chasing my tail trying to find my wife. I filed a
police
complaint, but the authorities didn't lift a finger. Shakeel's family is also in a similar state of confusion. SP Aparna Rajat Kaushik has assured me they'll get to the bottom of this."
Ganjdundwara station house officer Vinod Kumar said, "An FIR was filed against Shakeel under IPC section 366 (kidnapping) on July 11. Our initial investigation suggests the woman left with Shakeel of her own accord. We have got some solid leads, and we're working to unravel this knot and bring her back, along with Shakeel."
