NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- President-elect Donald Trump on Monday said he would consider pardoning Mayor Eric Adams after his historic indictment on federal charges.

"I think that he was treated pretty unfairly," Trump said at a press conference in Florida. "I would certainly look at it."

Trump said he would have to see the details of the case before making a decision.

"I'd have to see it because I don't know the facts," Trump said.

Trump insinuated Adams' criticism of the federal government over the city's migrant crisis could have influenced his indictment.

"When he essentially went against what was happening with the migrants coming in and he made some pretty strong statements... I said, 'You know what, he'll be indicted soon,'" Trump said.

It's an argument Adams previously made about the federal investigation.

The day news of his indictment on corruption charges broke, Adams defiantly suggested, without providing evidence, that U.S. prosecutors had gone after him because he had criticized President Joe Biden's immigration policies.

“Despite our pleas, when the federal government did nothing as its broken immigration policies overloaded our shelter system with no relief, I put the people of New York before party and politics,” he said at the time. “I always knew that if I stood my ground for all of you, that I would be a target — and a target I became.”
