NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Miracles can come true!
Petco Love Lost, a database for missing pets, reached out to PIX11 News to share the incredible journey of a dog who trekked across New York City and even crossed state lines before reuniting with her owner less than 24 hours later.
The story begins with Michael and his adopted one-year-old dog Millie.
One day, while Michael was traveling out-of-state, Millie was out on a walk with one of Michael's friends in East Village when she reportedly got spooked, slipped out of her harness, and ran off. The friend gave chase but to no avail.
Michael returned to New York City and searched for Millie overnight. Her photo was uploaded onto Petco Love Lost along with her microchip information.
In under 24 hours, Michael received a notification that Millie had been found and was at an emergency vet in Paramus, New Jersey.
Michael learned that Millie was found in Harlem, where she had been struck by a car. A Good Samaritan stopped traffic to retrieve her and take her to get treated. Millie sustained scrapes, cuts, and a leg injury.
An employee at the vet's office uploaded Millie's photo and her microchip information, which led to Petco Love Lost's technology matching the lost and found reports.
Michael and Millie reunited in New Jersey. “It was quite a nightmare," said Michael. "Petco Love Lost helped me find Millie. It was fantastic. It couldn’t have worked better. I had never heard of anything like that technology.”
