NEW DELHI: The number of Digi Yatra-enabled
airports
will increase from 13 currently to 38 by 2024-end, making domestic flying a paperless experience at 25 additional places, Union aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said Friday.
Also, big airports - which had started resembling cramped malls on weekends, albeit with aerobridges - will be allowed to have shops only after ensuring required space for necessities like main touchpoints such as security and seating, by factoring in projected traffic growth.
Last December - which had witnessed an average of 4.2 lakh domestic flyers daily - had led to massive congestion at airports like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. This winter, despite recording 4.5 lakh domestic flyers daily, has not seen a repeat of such chaos, thanks to increased deployment of
CISF
and immigration personnel and steps taken at many airports to create room for more security check counters since then.
