NEW DELHI:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
made his way back to his hometown of Ranchi on Sunday after Chennai Super Kings' exit from the
IPL 2024
tournament. The defending champion's campaign came to an end after a loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday.
A video of Dhoni reaching the Ranchi airport doing the rounds on social media in which the former CSK skipper was seen boarding his car upon arrival.
Dhoni made 25 off 13 balls with the help of three fours and a huge six, showing that he can still send the ball a long, long way.
The 42-year-old wicketkeeper, who has led the CSK to five IPL titles, is believed to have played his final game against RCB. Last year, he promised to return for one more season to show his appreciation for the fans' support.
CSK needed 17 in the final over to qualify for the playoffs on better net run rate, but bowler Yash Dayal, after being hit for monstrous six by Dhoni, held his nerves to help RCB prevail.
Even as the RCB players broke into wild celebrations, Dhoni shook hands with the opposition's reserves and support staff before quietly disappearing into the dressing room.
CSK have been managing Dhoni's workload carefully following his knee surgery. He faced only a few deliveries when he came out to bat. Positioned lower in the order, the former skipper has faced 73 balls this season, hitting 14 boundaries and 13 sixes with an impressive strike rate of 220.54.
