Dev

is proving himself to be a man of words. The actor-turned-politician and two-time Member of Parliament (2014 and 2019) from the

All India Trinamool Congress

registered his victory from the Ghatal constituency in

Lok Sabha Elections

2024 on June 4. He defeated the BJP's candidate from the Ghatal constituency, Hiranmoy Chattopadhyay, aka Hiran, with a margin of over 1.8 lakh votes.

With this win in the 2024 elections, Dev scored a hattrick as a winning MP in Ghatal. Within a week of the result being declared, Dev went back to Ghatal. And this time, he was not alone. The third-time MP of Ghatal went back to his people with the intent of delivering on his promise.
While campaigning before the elections this year, Dev set an exception for himself by appearing for blood donation camps and donating blood himself instead of only visiting religious places. During those campaign days, Dev had promised that he would plant the same number of trees as the number of votes he would receive in the election, despite win or loss. Dev has won with over 8 lakh, 37 thousand votes. Within a week of being declared as the winner, the actor came back to Sabang, a village that falls under the Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency, and started the tree plantation drive. Dev shared a clipping of the

tree plantation drive

on Instagram with the caption, “I promised that I will plant as many trees as I get votes, but as the demand has increased, I will try to plant as many trees as the total number of votes received in Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency excluding NOTA in the next 5 years.” Dev’s long-time girlfriend, popular

Tollywood

actress

Rukmini Maitra

too has come forward to join the actor in this initiative.

Dev, who is one of the most popular mega stars of Tollywood, made his acting debut with the 2005 film ‘Agnishapath’, directed by Prabir Nandi, opposite actress Rachana Banerjee. Dev then went on to work on ‘I Love You’. Despite the financial success of the film, he did not take on any other roles for over a year. Dev made a comeback to acting in director Raj Chakraborty's action-romance ‘Challenge’, opposite

Subhashree Ganguly

. Dev then went on to star in ‘Shedin Dekha Hoyechilo’ opposite Srabanti Chatterjee and in ‘Paglu’ with Koel Mullick. In ‘Romeo’ co-starring Subhashree. Dev has also been part of films like ‘Khokababu’, ‘Chander Pahar’, 'Rangbazz', and ‘Buno Haansh’. In 2015, he appeared in Aparna Sen's action romantic drama film ‘Arshinagar’ opposite Rittika Sen. His performance as a mute gangster in the 2016 action drama film ‘Zulfiqar’ directed by

Srijit Mukherji

earned him a lot of appreciation. In 2017, Dev founded his own production company,

Dev Entertainment Ventures

. The first film under Dev’s production house, ‘Champ’ was directed by

Raj Chakraborty

and had Dev and Rukmini Maitra in the roles. Dev went on to produce films like ‘Cockpit’, ‘Kabir’, ‘Password’, ‘Tonic’, ‘Kishmish’, ‘Projapoti’, ‘Bagha Jatin’, ‘Pradhan’ and starred in those films as well.

On the political front, Dev won the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections as a Trinamool Congress candidate from the Ghatal constituency. He gave his maiden speech in the Lok Sabha after two years of winning the elections, in Bengali, regarding the implementation of the Ghatal Master Plan. In 2019 and 2024, he was re-elected from the same constituency.
