NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans' slogger
Shahrukh Khan
on Saturday smashed a dazzling 30-ball 58 at home against Royal Challengers Bengaluru but went on to top the list of an unwanted IPL record.
Shahrukh alongside Sai Sudharsan (49-ball 84 not out) shared a sublime 84-run stand to power Titans to 200 for three in Ahmedabad.
As Shahrukh cracked a whirlwind 58, the hard-hitting finisher notched up his maiden IPL half-century.
And it took Shahrukh 36 innings to get to his first 50-plus score in the league. With that, Shahrukh has now taken the longest time for a specialist batter or a batting all-rounder to get to a first 50-plus IPL score.
Before Shahrukh, the unwanted record was in Steve Smith's name, who took 31 innings to get to his maiden IPL fifty.
Only five batters (bowling all-rounders) have taken longer to register their maiden IPL fifty -
Ravindra Jadeja
, Axar Patel , R Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh and Rashid Khan.
In December auction last year, Shahrukh was bought by Titans for a whopping Rs 7.4 crore.
Prior to that, Shahrukh represented Punjab Kings between 2021-23.
Last year's finalists Titans are currently at the 7th spot while RCB are languishing at the bottom of the IPL table this year.
