Death of Bronx twins, both 5, ruled a homicide; cause was smothering: officials

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – The deaths of two 5-year-old children in the Bronx in December was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner.

The cause of the deaths was smothering, officials said. Authorities responded to the apartment at 240 East 175th St. between Monroe and Topping avenues in Tremont on Dec. 18, according to the FDNY.

The mother allegedly told authorities the children were cold and not moving in their beds, according to officials. Sources told PIX11 News there were no reports of domestic violence at the home.

Carbon monoxide poisoning was ruled out as a possible cause of death, according to authorities. Police previously said the deaths appeared to be a "medical tragedy," as both were sick prior.
