NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – The days of calling over a CVS employee for locked deodorant could soon be gone.
Customers can now unlock cabinets using the CVS Health app, without calling over an employee, the company announced last week.
But the feature is only being tested at a couple of stores. The technology is currently being tested in three New York City locations and will be expanded to "approximately 10 stores on the West Coast in 2025," CVS spokesperson Tara Burke told Nexstar.
The feature will only work for CVS rewards members signed in on the Health app. And, they'll have to be connected to the store's wifi with Bluetooth on, the New York Times reported.
Here's how it will work: When shopping in store, you can open up the app and click a blue "In-Store" button. When you find a case you want to unlock, you'll hit another "Unlock" button in the app, then hold your phone up to a Bluetooth reader. That will unlock the case, and you'll just need to lock it back up when you're done picking your products.
The app will also give customers a personalized barcode to scan at check-out and the prescription pickup counter.
“The CVS Health app will make it easier for our customers to access and manage their health and care, save time and money, and make informed decisions about their health,” said CVS Health Executive Vice President Tilak Mandadi.
You can use the CVS Health app to unlock cabinets at these NYC stores:
- 630 Lexington Avenue
- 540 Amsterdam Avenue
- 158 Bleeker Street
