CSK vs SRH: Ruturaj unfazed about missing 100, wanted to get total to 220-plus

2 weeks ago 4

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad said that he wasn't concerned about missing out on the hundred and admitted he was disappointed not to get the team a score above 220 in their match against SRH. Ruturaj seemed destined for a second-consecutive before hitting one to the fielder in the deep as CSK posted 212 in their 20 overs. However, the total proved to be enough as CSK would get back to winning ways.

Ruturaj hit 98 off 54 balls on the day as Chennai won the match by 78 runs. Speaking at the post-match presentation, the CSK skipper said that it was a clinical performance and losing the toss proved to be a blessing in disguise.

CSK vs SRH: Report

"Feeling pretty good. Tough to play in such wet conditions, and to be able to win by 70-odd runs is a clinical performance. Was blessing in disguise at toss," said Ruturaj.

The CSK skipper said he was disappointed to miss out on a few hits in the end and was a bit upset during the innings break. Ruturaj was also happy to see his side rectify the errors they made in the last few games and felt they were outstanding in the field.

"Wasn't thinking about hundred. Wanted to make sure we get to 220-odd. Was disappointed that I missed 4-5 hits at the back end. During innings break I felt it could make a difference and I was upset. But thankfully it was enough. Last game we made some errors. Some loose balls here and there. Today we were outstanding in the field. Stuck to the plans and knew what the conditions were. With impact player rule, you always want the extra 20 runs. Never know what par score is," said Ruturaj.

Deshpande's hardwork paying off: Ruturaj

The CSK skipper praise Tushar Deshpande for his performance as he picked up 4 wickets for 27 runs in 3 overs to break the back of the SRH run-chase. Ruturaj said that the pacer's hardwork is paying off this season and also paid a special tribute to Ravindra Jadeja, who he claimed bowled a match-turning spell.

Ruturaj also said he lets the senior players do their job and isn't too vocal to them.

"That was one area - not getting wickets in powerplay. That's the only way it can put opposition in back foot. He's bowling really well (Deshpande). His hard work is paying off. Special mention to Jaddu as well. In these wet conditions to go for 22 runs, that was the match turning spell. I'm not vocal. Can't tell seniors in the dressing room what to do. You have to take the back seat and let them do their job," said Ruturaj.

CSK will next face PBKS at home on May 1.
