QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) --- A couch-surfer stabbed and beat a 68-year-old man to death in a Queens apartment following a fight over drugs and money, police said.

Gyasi Denis, 35, allegedly attacked Calvin Alexander with a piece of wood molding in a third-floor apartment on McBride Street in Far Rockaway last week, according to the NYPD. Officers found the victim with stab wounds in the back and facial injuries sitting in a bloody room at around 12:40 a.m. Saturday.

"There was blood on the walls, blood on the closets, and blood on the bed," NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said.

The suspect also bit the victim, who authorities believe had been dead for a couple of days, police said. Denis had been couch-surfing at Alexander's apartment.

The victim's friend went looking for him when Denis allegedly told her, "Calvin is dead" before leaving the apartment, police said. Cops arrested him a short time later before he confessed, Kenny said.

Denis was charged with manslaughter, burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
