A 50-paise

reward

for helping nab a

criminal

might sound absurd. But, for

police

in Rajasthan, it's the message that's priceless. It's about telling those idolising and emulating criminals in these times of social media - a criminal and his act are worth nothing. So, when Yogesh - booked under Arms Act - continued to evade arrest for nearly a year, district SP Devendra Bishnoi declared a reward of 50 paise for anyone providing information or help in nabbing him.

"The decision maybe unconventional but it would discourage those who try to emulate gangsters to be popular on social media. Criminals with high bounties or rewards often allure youngsters. This minimal reward sends a clear message - in reality, criminals hold little worth in society," said Bishnoi.
"Movies often glorify criminals, with the extent of rewards on them being a measure of popularity. Hits like 'Sholay' have dialogues like Gabbar Singh reminding his sidekick Sambha that the govt has declared a handsome reward of Rs 50,000 for information on us. Rewards announced shouldn't become a way of glorifying criminals," added Bishnoi.
