Serie A club SSC Napoli have announced Anotonio Conte as their new manager, who will be taking control of the side from the 2024-2024 season, in hopes of bringing the side back to glory after a tumultuous last couple of years. The 54-year-old has penned down a five-year contract with the Gli Azzuri. The former Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan manager will be replacing Rui Garcia at the Italian side, who was sacked by the club after just 4 months from his appointment. Having already had experience of managing a top-flight Italian side, with his stints at Juventus, Inter Milan and also the Italian national team.
After guiding the side to the 2022-2023 Serie A title, which was also their first league crown after the 1989-90 season, Luciano Spaletti decided to step down from the managerial role in June 2023. Napoli management roped in Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr manager Rudi Garcia as his replacement, but that saw the Frenchman guide the side to one of their most dismal seasons in recent times after finishing 10th in 2023-2024 Serie A. While the Giovanni Di Lorenzo-led side finished trophyless this season, the side's structure had even drawn criticism from the Gli Azzuri fans themselves.
In an official statement after signing for the club, Conte explained how he plans to turn fate around for Napoli and bring them back to being a powerhouse at major competitions.
"I can certainly promise one thing: I will do my utmost for the growth of the team and the club. My commitment, along with that of my staff, will be total," Conte said in a statement.
"Antonio is a top coach, a leader," I am sure that he will be able to start that necessary refounding after the conclusion of the cycle that led us to win the league title last year after many seasons at the top of Italian soccer...Today opens an important new chapter in the history of Napoli." Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis said.
Conte's brilliant coaching record has also seen him bag the Premier League title, and the FA Cup with Chelsea, but his calibre is surely speculated to be tested in his Serie A return.
