QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Former Gov. Cuomo, who is currently running for New York City mayor, scored another important endorsement.
This time by Congressman Greg Meeks, who in the past had supported another current mayoral candidate, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.
Congressman Meeks welcomed the former governor, stating that he was the best person to be the next mayor of New York City and the only candidate to lead the city. As Cuomo took the podium, he addressed the high number of people leaving New York due to a few issues the city faces, including public safety, homelessness, and the lack of control the city currently has over e-bikes.
He also blamed the democratic party for having President Trump elected back in November, citing the 500 thousand democrats who voted in the election, adding there is currently a lack of results and optimism from current democratic leaders. During the endorsement, it was also said that the city of New York is a target of Washington, D.C., and Cuomo called President Trump an existential threat.
"I dealt with him for four years, I fought for him for four years, I know him," said Cuomo. "He’s in many ways hasn’t learned from his first administration to his second, and he’s more diabolical in this administration, what he’s doing on immigration, the department of education, what he's doing with the judges, with the federal workers, you ain't see nothing yet."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Speaker Adams bashed Cuomo, saying, "Adrienne has always put Queens first, and that will never change. Unlike the ex-governor, who played political games with Queens' vaccines and defunded our borough's hospitals, public transit, and schools, Adrienne will always work for the people and never use her power for vanity or to settle political scores."
