The Delhi Congress on Wednesday held a protest against AAP over the recent increase in power tariffs. The demonstration took place at Mandi House, where Congress workers and leaders gathered, holding placards and party flags while voicing their discontent.
Addressing a gathering, Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav slammed AAP for its handling of electricity prices.
"In 2013, when AAP was campaigning, they made big claims about reducing electricity prices and providing free water supply. Today, people are witnessing frequent power cuts and yet their electricity bills are increasing," he alleged.
The protest comes in the wake of a significant hike in power tariffs due to the imposition of the Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC). The PPAC is a surcharge levied by electricity distribution companies to cover the cost of purchasing power, which fluctuates based on market rates and fuel prices.
This adjustment is periodically reviewed and passed on to consumers, leading to varying electricity bills.
Yadav accused AAP of failing to deliver on its promises and called the party a "B-team" of the BJP. "One does corruption, and the other remains silent. It is only Congress that takes up people's issues," he asserted.
The background to the issue lies in the promises made by AAP during its campaign in 2013. At that time, AAP had pledged to reduce power tariffs and provide a stable and affordable power supply.
The Delhi Congress has demanded immediate action from the AAP government to address the rising electricity prices and provide relief to the people.
AAP and Congress had jointly contested the Lok Sabha polls but will fight separately in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for next year.
In the run-up to the Assembly polls, Congress and the BJP will flag power tariff hike, water crisis and pollution as main issues to target AAP.
