NEW DELHI:

Congress

slammed the wholescale suspension of MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as PM Modi's attack on democracy after the attack on Parliament on December 13. The party said Modi government will use the "

opposition-less Parliament

" to "bulldoze" important legislations without any debate or dissent. Left MPs also condemned the unprecedented move and said India was being ruled by its "weakest home minister yet".
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said, "First, intruders attacked Parliament.

Then Modi government attacked Parliament and democracy. All democratic norms are being thrown into the dustbin by an autocratic government by suspending MPs." AICC general secretary KC Venugopal called the suspension of MPs by a "fascist regime" a badge of honour.
Kharge said the Opposition has a simple demand that the home minister issue a statement in the House on the "inexcusable breach" in Parliament security, followed by a discussion. "The PM can give interviews to a newspaper & the home minister can give TV interviews. But they have zero accountability left to the Parliament - which represents the people of India".
CPI MP Binoy Viswam accused BJP of "abetting security breaches" in Parliament, while his colleague P Sandosh Kumar said Shah who has been conspicuously absent since the security breach, is the "weakest home minister India has had since Independence" for "running away" from responding to Opposition's demand for a discussion.

Congress' Gaurav Gogoi said home minister Amit Shah is running away because he does not want his failure to be on parliamentary records. He said BJP MP Pratap Simha, who facilitated the passes, has not been punished, but opposition MPs raising questions about the attack are being suspended.
