BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Pieces of pottery and mirror strips line the Newkirk Plaza walls in Brooklyn.
A mosaic has grown between the windows and signs for local businesses for the past 12 years. It now lights up a passageway and stretches around the building.
Neighbors have worked with local artists to create new scenes this season.
Juan Carlos Pinto is an artist from the neighborhood. He sees the commercial district and subway station between Newkirk and Foster Avenues at Marlborough Road as a canvas.
They will return in the spring to add more panels, pieces, and pictures to the mosaic mural.
The Newkirk Plaza Merchants Association and Flatbush Development Corporation have also created programs on the block.
