Coldplay on the loop: Lucknow plugged into dense fog and chill

1 year ago 29

LUCKNOW: As dry icy northwesterly winds from northern hill regions of the country continued to lash the state on Friday, the city recorded its coldest night of this winter so far - surpassing Thursday (Jan 11) when the minimum temperature had dropped to 6.5 degrees.
The minimum temperature dropped to 6 degrees Celsius on Friday, 1.1 units below normal.

While dense fog prevailed in the morning, the sky cleared by afternoon.
However, a thin sheet of haze, accompanied by cold winds, kept the chill factor high. As a result, despite sunshine in the afternoon, maximum temperature did not rise above 17.2 degrees Celsius, 3.5 notches below normal.
No relief from cold conditions likely till Tuesday

The state Met department has predicted no relief from the cold conditions till Tuesday. Dense to very dense fog is expected on Saturday morning, followed by mainly clear sky during the day. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 17 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Met officials said the moisture left behind a cyclonic cir culation, which caused rainfall in some parts of the state earlier this week, is now getting condensed into dense fog due to drop in temperature because of strong icy winds.

Kanpur was the coldest in Uttar Pradesh with minimum temperature at three degrees Celsius, followed by Agra 3.9 degrees Celsius, Orai, Aligarh and Meerut 4.8 degrees Celsius each, Muzaffarnagar and Shahjahanpur five degrees Celsius each, Bareilly and Mirzapur 5.2 degrees Celsius each, Barabanki 5.5 degrees Celsius, Fatehgarh 5.8 degrees Celsius and Lucknow six degrees Celsius
