NEW YORK (PIX11) -- While snow totals may be on everyone's radars, New York and New Jersey officials warn residents to also brace for frigid temperatures starting Sunday night.

A Code Blue has been issued in New York City and New Jersey as temperatures are expected to dip to the lower 20s overnight into Monday.

Shelters and drop-in centers will be available city-wide for the homeless and those seeking shelter. No one will be denied shelter during a Code Blue.

The NYCDHS will deploy outreach teams to assist homeless individuals. If you encounter a homeless person in the cold, please call 311, and an outreach team will be sent to that location.

The NYPD also encourages residents to check on elderly neighbors and dress warmly amid the winter storm.

The frigid temperatures could also lead to icy conditions across the tri-state area, according to the PIX11 weather team. Residents should be cautious during the Monday commute.
