 ‘It Kind of Works!’”

San Francisco 49ers star

George Kittle

's wife,

Claire Kittle

WAG

" a term that has caused heated debate on ground concerning its sexist undertones. Recently, Claire opened up to US Weekly that she has no problem being referred to as the term even though some consider it derogatory.

The term "WAG" has often used to describe women as being the wives or girlfriends of athletes, forgetting their actual identities and achievements.

In fact, the UK's

Equalities and Human Rights Commission

branded the acronym "derogatory" all the way back in 2010. But Claire Kittle was not offended by the term, and so she was happy to share her opinion during the interview:

"It's a short and quick term, you know? What else would have the same effect? It kind of works!" she said, revealing her opinion that she sees it as not harmful but practical.

Tight Group of NFL WAGs

Though the word has negative connotations among many, Claire said that the wives and girlfriends of many NFL players are very tight-knit communities. For example, she is extremely close with

Kyle Juszczyk

's wife and model Olivia Culpo and the three often are found cheering on their husbands together. Speaking about the support system within the 49ers organization, she said:

"It's unbelievable here. This is our eighth year, which is just rare in itself to have him play for one team for his entire career thus far. We're just so blessed and grateful to be part of this organization. They really are top in the NFL, and you'll hear that across the board from other families, too."
The divide in opinions about the term 'WAG' highlights a broader conversation about women's representation in sports. Many women have sought to carve out their identities outside of their partners' fame, advocating for recognition of their own achievements, whether in business, philanthropy, or personal pursuits.
This sentiment is echoed by other NFL partners who prefer not to be labeled merely as WAGs. They emphasize their individual contributions and experiences, often participating in initiatives that uplift the community and provide support to those in need.
