NEW JERSEY (PIX11) -- The death of a 4-year-old boy who drowned Saturday in a pool in North Brunswick, New Jersey, is being investigated by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, authorities said.
Officers from the North Brunswick Police Department responded to a 911 call of a report of a child who was found in a home pool and was not breathing. The call came in at 7:46 p.m. Officers who responded to the call needed to perform CPR at the scene, authorities said.
The child was transported to Rober Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"Our hearts are heavy with this tragic loss," Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Police Chief Joseph Battaglia said in a joint statement. "We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time. We also urge everyone to ensure the safety of all children when near water."
The exact location of the drowning has not been released. An investigation is currently being conducted.
