EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (PIX11) - A 3-year-old child found dead in East Flatbush Sunday was drowned and beaten, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Medical Examiner released the child's cause of death Wednesday, just one day after 29-year-old Kevin James was arrested and charged with murder, according to police.
Sources told PIX11 News James is the stepson of the man who was asked to babysit the boy. James pleaded not guilty to his three charges, court records show.
The child, Denim Brown, was found unconscious inside a bathtub in the New York Avenue apartment Sunday evening, according to law enforcement sources.
The child was rushed to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
