DEHRADUN: Chief secretary Radha Raturi, in a meeting of the State
Road Safety Fund
Management Committee on Monday, directed authorities to ensure compliance with traffic norms like wearing seat belts in four-wheelers and helmets by both riders and pillion riders on two-wheelers. She called for implementation of the
e-challan system
in the state.
Raturi sought a report from the transport department detailing corrective measures taken following audit of road accidents.
She instructed deployment of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to monitor and issue challans for traffic violations at state borders, main roads, and within cities using drone cameras. She directed the education department to conduct weekly sessions to raise student awareness about traffic norms, advocating for upgrading traffic signals with ANPR and Red Light Violation Detection systems.
To enhance the traffic system in all 13 districts, Raturi approved funding and granted in-principle approval for installation of radar speed signboards with cameras, digital speed signboards, variable message display boards, body-worn cameras, alcometers/ breathalysers, and portable sound systems for traffic police personnel.
Raturi instructed the public works department to work towards achieving a “zero accident state”, gave financial and in-principle approval for installation of crash barriers, corrective work on black spots, parapets and cautionary signboards and road marking.
