MANHATTAN. N.Y. (PIX11) -- Cherry blossom season is here.
The first blooms of the season are unfurling at the Great Lawn inside Central Park, bringing the cherished views of spring, the park shared.
The Higan cherry trees are found on the Great Lawn, and the flowers are slightly transprarent with white-to-pink flowers. These trees can bloom twice in one season and they bloom from late fall to early spring, according to the park.
The cherry trees are a must-see, and while spring is still a few weeks away, New Yorkers can track the blooms at Central Park with the interactive Cherry Blossom Tracker Map.
According to the map, the rest of the park’s cherry blossoms are currently in pre-peak.
The Central Park Cherry Blossom Tracker Map offers the following:
- Where to Go: Based on six key locations, whether east or west of the Reservoir, overlooking Cherry Hill, or just south of the Great Lawns
- When to Go: Based on the Conservancy’s color-coded system outlining what areas are pre-peak, peak and post-peak
