NEW DELHI: In a change of guard in the top echelons of the

Navy

,

Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh

took over as the new chief of the

Western Naval Command

(WNC) in Mumbai on Wednesday, while

Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi

will take over as the new vice chief of the force here on Thursday.
Vice Admiral Singh, who was commissioned in the executive branch of the Navy in 1986, has held a range of command, training, and staff appointments, including as the flag officer commanding of the country's Western Fleet.

Vice Admiral Tripathi, who was commissioned in July 1985, has also held various important operational and staff appointments, including as the director general of naval operations and the flag officer commanding of the country's

Eastern Fleet.
