leadership announced his promotion as a regional coordinator for
Ongole parliament
as well as combined
Nellore district
on Saturday.
Chevireddy had volunteered himself out of the Chandragiri assembly contest to pave way for his son Chevireddy Mohith Reddy to contest in the 2024 elections.
However, in the aftermath of certain major political developments in the ruling party in Prakasam district during the last couple of months, the YSRCP leadership appointed Chevireddy as it's nominee to contest from the Ongole parliament in the ensuing general elections recently, sending a strong message to the disgruntled leaders in former minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy and Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy camps, that no form of dissent would be acceptable.
Parallelly in Nellore district, the ruling party is facing a crisis situation ahead of the 2024 elections after its Nellore Lok Sabha nominee Rajya Sabha MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy distanced himself from the poll campaign for more than a week now and has reportedly gone out of reach for the party
Before the Vemireddy episode, the YSRCP faced a rebellion within the party, leading to the exodus of about three MLAs from the party fold so far. While Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy (Nellore rural MLA), Anam Ramnarayana Reddy (Venkatagiri MLA), Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy (Udayagiri MLA) shifted loyalties to the TDP ahead of the ensuing general elections, there is growing discontent in certain other assembly constituencies as well, where the sitting candidates were recently replaced by the party leadership.
Amidst all these key political developments, the YSRCP leadership has reposed faith once again in party loyalist Chevireddy to set things right both at the Ongole parliament as well as in the combined Nellore district and to strengthen the party's prospects in the 2024 general elections.
