NEW DELHI: The
Centre
has constituted a
committee
of secretaries under the chairmanship of the cabinet secretary to examine the
administrative steps
that can be taken to safeguard the interests of Scheduled Castes communities, such as the
Madigas
and other similar groups. These communities have raised concerns about not receiving their share of benefits.
As the second meeting of the committee was held, it met with a delegation from the Madiga community representing the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
Highlighting the difficulties faced by the Madiga community, the delegation requested the government to ensure that the benefits of all welfare and development schemes of the central and state governments are available equitably to the members of the Madiga and other similarly placed communities.
The committee assured the delegation of taking appropriate measures and actions.
