Visakhapatnam: CCTV camera footage has helped the

Anakapalle

district police identify and nab the man, who attempted to murder an

elderly woman

and robbed her gold ornaments at Gavarapalem in Anakapalle town in the district.
Anakapalle district police chief KV Murali Krishna said that a youngster attacked an elderly woman and robbed her of around 80 grams of gold jewellery at Anakapalle town on Jan 26.

The victim was identified as 67-year-old Karri Lakshmi Narayanamma, who stays alone in the house in Anakapalle town and her son KNV Kishore Kumar is an employee with Railways in Secunderabad.
Police said that the accused noticed the woman was alone in her house and attempted to eliminate her by strangling her with a cloth. When the woman fell unconscious, he presumed that the woman had died, and fled with the gold items.

Later, the victim’s relatives found her unconscious and rushed her to a hospital. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case.
When the police examined the

CCTV footage

at the home, they identified the accused Malla Govinda, a technician with City Cable at Gavarapalem locality in Anakapalle town. The police have nabbed the accused and recovered the stolen gold ornaments and one bike from the accused, Murali Krishna added.
