MORRISANIA, The Bronx (PIX11) – A car caught on fire after it crashed into a light pole during a pursuit with police in the Bronx overnight Wednesday, according to the NYPD.
Officers attempted to stop a white Mercedes sedan in Morrisania around 3:10 a.m., according to authorities. Sources told PIX11 News that the stop was due to a red light violation.
The car took off, lost control and crashed, according to authorities. The vehicle then caught fire as it came to a stop in front of a building on Prospect Avenue, officials said.
The driver, a 22-year-old man, was taken into custody, according to authorities. He refused medical attention at the scene.
Police said a passenger in the car, a 30-year-old woman, was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln with minor injuries.
The building the car stopped in front of only had a broken window, according to authorities.
