NEW DELHI:
Rohit Sharma
and
Hardik Pandya
's woeful form has been the biggest reason behind Mumbai Indians' dismal campaign in the
IPL 2024
. The five-time IPL champions MI became the first team to get eliminated from the playoffs race.
The former Mumbai captain Rohit might have scored a century but the second half has been far from impressive as he made just 52 runs in the last six innings.
Former India cricketer Hemang Badani criticized Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya for their recent form and expressed concern over the team's exit from the IPL. He also raised doubts about the depth of the Indian team ahead of the
T20 World Cup
.
"Indian captain and vice captain out of the IPL. What does that speak of our quality depth and our chances. Trolls stay away.. If you have something objective to add then pls do.I for one am very worried about team India! Badani posted on X.
Mumbai suffered their ninth loss in 13 matches after going down to Kolkata Knight Riders in a rain-truncated match on Saturday.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag also raised concerns on Rohit's form and shared his unfiltered thoughts on his future with MI. Sehwag expressed his doubts about the likelihood of Rohit being retained by the franchise.
During a discussion with Cricbuzz on Saturday, Sehwag suggested that apart from Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav, no player in the MI dressing room could assure themselves of retention ahead of the mega auction next season. This observation also raises questions about Hardik Pandya's position on the team.
"If you get Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan for one movie, it doesn't mean it will be a hit film. You have to perform. There has to be something in the script. Look at these big names...they all have to perform. Rohit scored one hundred and it was in a losing cause. In the remaining matches, when did he perform? Ishan Kishan has not gone beyond the powerplay the entire season. So the only two players who are certain are Bumrah and Suryakumar. If they have a third and a fourth, we'll see," he said.
