Candidates Chess: Gukesh wins to become sole leader

jumped to the top spot as sole leader with his victory of

Alireza Firouzja

of France in Round 13 of the

FIDE

Candidates tournament in Toronto, Canada, on Saturday.
The win took Gukesh's tally to 8.5 points, ahead of Hikaru Nakamura of USA and Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia, who are joint second with eight points each.

There is just one round left to play now, with the winner earning a chance to challenge Ding Liren for the World Championship.

In the women's division, India's R Vaishali registered her fourth consecutive victory to join Konreu Humpy at 6.5 points for a joint third spot, while China's Tan Zhongyi remains in the lead with a draw against Aleksandra Goryachkina.
