The defendant gave birth in her mother's apartment on Bronx Park East at around 3 a.m. before she was spotted on surveillance video leaving with a tote bag. Prosecutors said a few hours later, Browne-Gouldbourne returned to the apartment and allegedly handed her mom the bag when asked if she had laundry. The suspect's mom then found her lifeless grandchild wrapped in clothing in the bag, authorities said.

The medical examiner said the girl was smothered to death.

Browne-Gouldbourne was arrested on White Plains Road and taken to the hospital, where she delivered a baby boy, the victim's twin brother, prosecutors said.

The Allerton resident pleaded not guilty and is being held on bail of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond, accoridng to court records. She is due back in court on April 11.

Her attorney could not immediately be reached Wednesday.
