Cab driver strikes man, flees then returns on Lower East Side: police

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A yellow cab driver struck a 22-year-old man on the Lower East Side Saturday morning, police sources said.

Police officers from the seventh precinct responded to a 911 call for a hit and run. The call came in at 4:51 a.m. Police said the 22-year-old victim was crossing Delancey and Clinton Street when a cab driver struck him with his vehicle.

Authorities said the cab driver was a 69-year-old man in a 2023 Camry who fled the scene but later returned.

The victim was taken to Bellvue Hospital. His current status is known, but police say he was in critical condition.

No arrests have been made. An investigation remains ongoing, police said.
