NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians pacer
Jasprit Bumrah
dished out an emphatic performance against
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
as he returned astonishing figures of 5/21 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
Bumrah's performance was truly magnificent, as he had two opportunities for a hat-trick, propelling him to the top of the purple-cap leaderboard. He now shares the summit with Yuzvendra Chahal, both having secured 10 wickets.
Bumrah's five-wicket haul marked a historic moment in IPL history as he became the first bowler ever to achieve this feat against RCB.
He now also holds the record of taking most wickets against RCB with 29 scalps surpassing
Ravindra Jadeja
and Sandeep Sharma record of 26 wickets.
Additionally, he joined an elite group, becoming only the fourth bowler, alongside James Faulkner, Jaydev Unadkat and
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
to secure two five-wicket hauls in IPL history.
In a contest where his fellow pacers erred consistently, Bumrah's accuracy and mastery over variation helped him rule the roost once again.
Mixing up his fiery yorkers perfectly with sharp bouncers, Bumrah snaffled the in-form Virat Kohli (3) early on to extend his ordinary run at the Wankhede Stadium while playing the IPL.
Bumrah handed MI the major breakthrough yet again when Faf's fabulous innings came to an end on 61(40).
RCB suffered back-to-back blows as Bumrah dismissed Mahipal Lomror on the very next ball. He completed his five-wicket haul with the wicket of Vijaykumar Vishayk.
