PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- For many, it’s just way too cold to spend lots of time outside, but inside, it’s a different story.
Practically everything’s a popup at the Brooklyn Museum this Sunday, and it can be free.
A pop-up Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra concert in the beautiful Beaux-Arts Court, a pop-up art class right in the same space at the same time, and the pop-up market in the lobby.
First, the music of Hindemith and Brahms with a pay-what-you-wish entrance fee.
“We’re really happy to bring these pop-up concerts as a way to make music more accessible,” David Biko, a Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra board member, told PIX11 News. “Free programs for people to see some music and connect."
This is the first time the museum has combined music and art together, zen tangles for all ages, in a stress-free environment.
“By having the orchestra play live, we are challenging people to play with the mood of the music, and we are seeing some really cool patterns, and they are enjoying it,” Lillian Young, the family program coordinator at the Brooklyn Museum, told PIX11 News.
Caitlin Boyce, mother of 6-year-old Cleo, was enjoying the concert.
“I think for children, they feel everything, don’t they?” Boyce told PIX11 News. “Their connection to art and music is seamless. I am enjoying them being happy and quiet.”
In the lobby, there is a pop-up winter artisans’ market of local vendors offering handmade artwork, jewelry, fashion, and home goods.
Vendor Juanita Martin is happy to be warm and cozy inside.
“Everything on my table is about positive energy,” Martin, the owner of Nitjuan Design, told PIX11 News. “It’s all about people feeling good and looking good.”
The popup winter artisans market is held monthly at the museum. The next one is the weekend of Fe. 10 and 11.
