NEW YORK (PIX11) – From Helping our viewers get repairs to helping teens get prom suits, Monica Morales is making it happen.
Luz Amaro from East Harlem is a proud grandmother of seven who just wanted kitchen repairs.
After PIX11's story, not only did she get repairs, but Valerie Fitch from a non-profit called Circle of Generosity was watching and surprised her with a $2000 check to help buy kitchen appliances.
It's prom season again. The principal of Brooklyn Academy of Global Finance, Danielle Darbee, reached out to PIX11 again for some help. Let's help make this a celebration to remember. You can donate here.
Darbee contacted us in May 2022 and May 2023. Our viewers helped make the senior prom happen, so she hopes we can do it again this year.
Darbee says money should not be a reason not to be able to go. In reality, she says, many of her students are from shelters and public housing and have parents living paycheck to paycheck, and $125 for a prom ticket can be bought. Darbee says the most pressing need right now is men's suits. The prom is on Tuesday, and Darbee says PIX11 viewers donated suits.
Last year, Craig Fogarty, a teacher from Ps 68 in the Bronx, reached out to Pix11 for help. They won the Soapbox Derby competition in District 11. Guess what? These little champions won again. They need support to go to Akron, Ohio, for nationals in July.
