Boy, 3, dies after being dropped off at NYC hospital: NYPD

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A 3-year-old boy who was dropped off at a hospital Sunday morning has died, according to the NYPD.

The child was left at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center at around 11:30 a.m. by two unidentified individuals who fled in a vehicle, hospital staff told responding officers.

The child was unconscious and unresponsive and had bruising around his body, police said.

Staff inside the Emergency Room were shaken by what had happened. "I heard some lady brought in a baby lifeless. She just left. She had a car parked waiting for her and they just left," one staff member told PIX11 News.

Police were checking surveillance cameras and interviewing staff inside the hospital throughout the day. Investigations are ongoing.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of the child's death.
