has introduced its latest true wireless earbuds called the
Bose Ultra Open Earbuds
. Featuring an unconventional
open-ear design
, these
Bluetooth earbuds
allow you to listen to the audio while still hearing
ambient sounds
around you.
The key highlight of the Ultra Open Earbuds is the unique cuff-like design that rests on the outer ear without plugging the ear canal.
This enables
audio passthrough
so you can seamlessly blend in music or calls with environmental awareness for safety and social etiquette.

Constructed using soft silicone, the flexible earpiece arms have a U-shape to grip the ear's rim gently. The exterior section houses the button controls as well as the battery and antennas packed into a metallic barrel form factor. This section connects to the inner piece via a coated spring arm that provides stability.

Bose is marketing these as all-day wearable earbuds suited for activities like dog walking, grocery shopping, or coffee dates where hearing surroundings remain essential. The IPX4 water resistance also makes them suitable for workouts.
Despite the unblocked design, Bose claims to have engineered proprietary transducer and acoustic innovations under its OpenAudio platform to channel audio directly into the ear canal. This ensures private listening without sound leakage.
Further augmenting the audio experience is the Bose Immersive Audio processing that adds spatial effects by tracking head movement using onboard sensors. Users can choose between Still and Motion modes accordingly.
The Ultra Open Earbuds incorporate premium features like Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm's latest aptX Adaptive codec for CD-like lossless quality over Bluetooth. The Google Fast Pair feature enables quick setup with Android devices.
With up to 7.5 hours per charge and three additional top-ups from the case, battery life is decent but not best-in-class. The earbuds do support quick charging via USB-C.
The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds come in white and black color options. Starting today, they are on sale in the US for $299 exclusively via Bose.com and select retailers. A global market launch is expected soon.
