receipts

2022-23
rose by 23% to around Rs 2,361 crore, 54% of which came via
electoral bonds

expenditure
, meanwhile, surged by 59% to Rs 1,361 crore in 2022-23 from Rs 854 crore in the previous year.
As per BJP’s annual audit report for 2022-23 made public by Election Commission on Thursday, electoral bonds brought in Rs 1,294 crore for the party, up 25% from Rs 1033.7 crore received in 2021-22.
Other contributions, including donations from individuals, corporates and electoral trusts, totalled Rs 648 crore, down from Rs 721.7 crore in 2021-22. Receipts from Aajiwan Sahayog Nidhi rose to Rs 177.2 crore in 2022-23 from barely Rs 19.9 crore in 2021-22.
Interest from banks totalled Rs 237.3 crore in 2022-23, way beyond the Rs 133.3 crore interest earned the previous year.
On the expenditure side, 80% of the total spending in 2022-23 was on poll and general propaganda. Over Rs 1,092 crore was spent on this head, up from Rs 645.8 crore spent in 2021-22. This included Rs 844 crore spent on advertisement and publicity and Rs 132 crore on travel.
In comparison, Congress’s total receipts during 2022-23 fell to Rs 452 crore from Rs 541 crore in 2021-22, while its expenditure rose to Rs 467 crore from Rs 400 crore a year ago. Its contribution receipts via electoral bonds in 2022-23 were down to Rs 171 crore, making up 63% of its total donation receipts and 38% of its overall income, from Rs 236 crore in 2021-22.
As per the audit reports for 2022-23 filed by other parties, CPM’s receipts totalled Rs 141.6 crore, AAP’s Rs 85.1 crore, BSP’s Rs 29.2 crore and NPP’s Rs 7.5 crore.
